In his heart, is where the man plans his course, but God determines his footsteps.
–Proverbs 16:9

Growing up in Charlotte, N.C. , Nikki Campbell has always had dreams of singing and traveling the world. Due to shyness, low self-esteem, and self hatred, she never believed that she was good enough to live her dreams. Being brought up by an educator, her mother had her own plans for Campbell's future. Her mother wanted her to go to college and become a teacher. Being that Campbell lacked belief in herself, she decided to just do as her mother said.
In 2000, Campbell enrolled in Winston Salem State University , in Winston Salem, N.C. In school, Campbell continued to have a hard time loving herself and felt unworthy to achieve her dreams. It wasn’t until she heard the sweet soulful sounds of Neo-Soul Artist, India Arie that made her want to stop her self pity. She even began to take interest in growing spiritually in Christ. Once she found who she was in Christ, her level of confidence arose and she gave her life to him one year later.
While still in school, Campbell befriended a young girl whose makeup was consistently flawless and became interested in learning how to apply it. She would watch her apply her makeup at every chance given. The young lady taught her all about using various makeup brushes and choosing the best colors for her face.
Campbell played around with it using her own face as a canvas. Through trial and error, Campbell continued to better her craft, until one day she was asked by a friend to apply her makeup for a fashion show given at her College. While in the process of applying her makeup, other models came forward and asked that she apply theirs as well.In 2006, a year after returning home to Charlotte, Campbell ran into a High School friend, Cynthia Ndelo, who had taken up an interest in Photography and who had a photo shoot scheduled and needed a makeup artist. Being that Cynthia knew of Campbell’s skill in Makeup, she asked Campbell to assist with the photo shoot, as well as another High School friend, Jania Massey, who had an eye for fashion. After seeing the end result of the shoot, all three friends, whom also all cheered together in high school, started a business together called "CNJ, INC". One year later, the three separately ventured off to start businesses of their own.
After finding a new church home in Charlotte, Campbell ran into a college friend and MAC Cosmetics Makeup Pro Artist, Kendrick Black. After being asked, Black agreed to mentor Campbell . They worked together for two months and then he sent her on her way. A year later, Campbell felt God calling her to Nashville, TN. Although being afraid to step out on her own, Campbell came upon a Tyler Perry Interview. After hearing his story and being touched at how strong his faith was, Campbell had no choice but to trust God and leave home behind.
